ERIE PRIVATE DETECTIVE AGENCY CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION INTO POTENTIAL MISMANAGEMENT OF FEDERALLY
FUNDED AGENCY
July 21, 1999--DOUGLAS J. HAGMANN,
CMI, DIRECTOR OF HAGMANN INVESTIGATIVE SERVICES, INC. is
calling upon the Pennsylvania State Attorney General's Office, Governor Tom
Ridge, and Pennsylvania House Majority Leader John M. Purzel for an immediate
investigation into the potential mismanagement of federally funded Community
Resources For Independence, 2222 Filmore Avenue, Erie, PA 16506. C.R.I., Inc is
a nonprofit organization that employs approximately 400 home health care workers
in 28 Pennsylvania counties. At issue is the agency's apparent lack of proper
and qualified oversight and management of its home health care aides, lack of
any known criminal background checks for current or prospective employees,
possible violations of the Negligent Hiring Doctrine, as well as failure of the
agency to act on complaints regarding its employees.
The call for an official probe is a direct result of an investigation conducted
by Hagmann Investigative Services, Inc. which resulted in videotape evidence
being turned over to law enforcement authorities that clearly shows a home
health care aide stealing narcotic medication from one of their patients. This
surveillance footage resulted in the arrest of a home health care worker on
Friday, July 16, 1999. The identity of the aide is being withheld pending
additional investigation.
